Princeton University Press is seeking a creative interior Book Designer to join our design team. If you love typography and are interested in how InDesign tools and XML can be used to make interior book production run smoothly, this job may be for you.

Candidate must have a strong interest in typography, technology, and publishing. He/she must be a systematic thinker interested in creating and implementing a series of interior templates using Adobe InDesign. In addition to creating and managing interior templates for academic monographs, he/she will design original interiors for trade books. Some cover design for academic monographs may be involved.

  • Excellent typographic skills required
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating knowledge of typography and logical thinking required
  • Proven project management ability strongly preferred
  • Candidate must be self-directed and deadline-oriented
  • Candidate must be team-oriented and flexible
  • Excellent InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator skills required
  • Strong understanding of InDesign paragraph and character styles required
  • Experience sizing and preparing interior electronic art required
  • Typesetting experience preferred
  • Experience flowing tagged text, styling footnotes/endnotes, and handling special characters preferred
  • Familiarity with grep Regular Expressions preferred
  • Excellent typographic skills required
  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge preferred
  • Experience outputting to ePub from InDesign preferred 
  • BFA or BA with art background required
  • 3-5 years publishing experience required
