Internships

Princeton University Press offers unpaid internships in several areas of publishing. These internships can qualify for course credit - please check with your course advisor. Internships are for one semester and require you to be present an average of 15 hours per week.


Advertising/Exhibits Intern: Spring 2010

Job Title: Advertising/Exhibits Intern
Department: Marketing
Reports To: Advertising Assistant/Exhibits Manager

Purpose

The Advertising/Exhibits Intern will assist the department with photocopying, updating the advertising database, preparing marketing packets, and preparing marketing materials to promote books at academic conferences.

A. Advertising

  1. Researches advertising opportunities in various subject areas for the benefit of the advertising department.
  2. Updates and maintains advertising databases with correct publication rates and contacts to ensure accuracy.
  3. Prepares marketing packets for distribution at launch meetings.
  4. Assembles monthly advertising notebook to display and circulate ads within the Press.
  5. Communicates by phone and email with Press employees and outside advertising contacts as needed by the department.

B. Exhibits

  1. Assists with the preparation of order forms for conferences.
  2. Prints and mounts posters and maintains supplies of exhibit materials.
  3. Prepares advertising copy for ads.
  4. Assists Exhibits Manager with ordering books and packing display materials for shipment.
  5. Completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the exhibits program.

Organization

The Advertising/Exhibits Intern reports to both the advertising assistant and the exhibits manager. There are typically no direct reports to this position.

Challenges and Opportunities

The Advertising/Exhibits Intern is able to participate in the various activities associated with the advertising of a variety of scholarly books and the marketing of books at academic meetings.

Position Requirements

  1. Must be attending a four-year college or university with a strong concentration, or major in the humanities, preferably English or communications.
  2. Must have high proficiency in the use of the English language.
  3. Must possess strong organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, graphic design programs a plus.
  5. Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit, use hands, talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required will include close vision, distance vision, color vision may apply. This is a typical office-type working environment.
