Princeton Series in 19th Century Art, Culture, and Society

The aim of this series is to publish book-length studies in nineteenth-century art that are informed by cultural theory and social history. The study of the art of the nineteenth century has been recognized as a field that, more than any other, has proven a particularly fruitful ground for new methodologies and animated debate. The interdisciplinary character of the series is aimed at making innovative scholarship accessible to a wider readership.

The series covers the period from the American and French revolutions to the end of the nineteenth century, with, however, a decided emphasis on the first half of the century. The series is international in scope, focusing on European art, but not excluding American art or any other form of artistic production that looked to European artistic culture and social structures.
