Join us for a special event with sociologist and UC Berkeley professor Dr. Carolyn Chen about her most recent book: Work, Pray, Code: When Work Becomes Religion in Silicon Valley. Over a several year period, Dr. Chen did extensive sociological research into the increasingly popular Bay Area trend of corporate workplaces consciously co-opting religious language and practices as part of their business strategy. What happens when we worship work? What happens when we look to work for transcendent meaning and identity? Whether or not you work in tech, for anyone serious about their faith, the implications of these questions are worth paying attention to.
The evening begins with a reception (light refreshments) and includes a dialogue, panel, and Q&A with Dr. Chen about her book. We hope and pray that this event spurs a series of important conversations.
