Photography in Senegal emerged and thrived at the intersection of the Black Atlantic, the Islamic Ummah, and African cultures. Starting with the oldest-surviving daguerreotype from West Africa from the 1840s, all the way to the itinerant practice of modernists like Oumar Ka in the 1960s.
Giulia Paoletti will be available in the 1-54 Bookshop after the talk from 12.00 – 12.45 to sign copies of her groundbreaking book.
