Virtual Event: Adam Goodman at Immigration History Research Center (University of Minnesota)The Deportation Machine

Adam Goodman (University of Illinois at Chicago) joins Professor Jimmy Patiño (UMN Chicano & Latino Studies) and IHRC Director Erika Lee to discuss his award-winning book.

The Deportation Machine traces the US government’s systematic efforts to terrorize and expel immigrants over the past 140 years. The book chronicles the devastating human costs of deportation and the innovative strategies people have adopted to fight against the machine and redefine belonging in ways that transcend citizenship. It was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in History and the winner of multiple awards, including the PROSE Award in North American History from the Association of American Publishers.
