Image Resources for Authors

Princeton University Press has established partnerships with select image content sites to provide authors with varied options for art, illustrations, and photographs for interior use. These partnerships will provide you with access to a designated account manager as well as special pricing. You are welcome to use additional resources not noted herein, of course. License and image files fees will vary. Please refer to your PUP publishing agreement to confirm your financial obligation regarding permissions fees.

RM refers to images which are “Rights Managed”: a non-exclusive, non-sub-licensable, non-assignable license for reproduction only within the work noted. “RF” refers to “Royalty Free”: you pay for a license once, for unlimited use. Generally, RF license fees are higher. However, Alamy will permit PUP authors to license RF images for RM rates for their PUP titles.

To secure permission or high-resolution files from Granger, please locate the images that you would like to license on the site. Then contact Ellen Sandberg (esandberg@granger.com) or Silka Quintero (saquintero@granger.com) directly with publication details for your project. They will assist with pricing, invoicing, and image files.

Alamy Stock Photos, Images & Vectors

Our contact at Alamy is Account Manager Mary Ellen Jensen (maryellen@alamy.com). Once you select images from the site that you would like to license, send full publication details for your Princeton University Press title to Mary Ellen via email. Include the image ID number, as well as the size that the image will be in your new work, and who will be paying the license fees.

AgeFotoStock America, Inc.

Our contact at AgeFotoStock America, Inc. is Dulce Estévez (dulce@agefotostock.com.es). This image agency not only provides reduced rates to PUP authors, but its services include photo research as well as provision of image files. Please email Dulce and include your Press Editorial Assistant or Assistant Editor in the initial message. This will authenticate you as a Press author.

Science Photo Library

Our contact at Science Photo Library is Barrie Underwood (barrie.underwood@sciencephoto.co.uk). Any author working on a Press title will be offered a discounted rate for images. For projects requiring larger volumes of images (20+), an additional discount may be applied. These discounted rates will only be available through Barrie and download access can be arranged so that multiple images can be downloaded before licensing on a single invoice at project completion.

Other Options

Other image sites that we recommend are Shutterstock, Bridgeman, and iStock. Licensing and file charges for Corbis and AP Photos can be high and should be avoided, if possible.
