During the month of June we celebrate the audiobook and all that it has to offer as we start on our summer reading lists. People are listening to books more than ever and over the last two years we’ve seen a shift from audio as a commuter option, to listening as a break from the visual strains we’ve all encountered as we switched to virtual learning, working, and even socializing. As Curator of Audio at Princeton UP, I hope you will consider adding our audiobooks to your line up. Whether you’re a first time listener or a long-time audio enthusiast there is something for everyone. Our most recent publications allow us to hear what daily life would be like in Britain more than 1,000 years ago (Wordhord by Hana Videen; narrated by Sara Powell); we are taken on an meditative journey with soundscapes of the desert that shaped the Christian monastic tradition (Sonorous Desert by Kim Haines-Eitzen; narrated by Eunice Wong), and hear the stories of over 30 female astronomers who blazed the trail for future women in this field (The Sky is for Everyone, edited by Virginia Trimble and David A. Weintraub; narrated by Kaliswa Brewster, Marnie Chesterton, Katherine Fenton, Pooneh Ghoddoosi, and Kate Harper). This summer you’ll also be able to find incredible works by Jhumpa Lahiri (Translating Myself and Others as narrated by Sneha Mathan and the author), Maureen Jenkins-Perry (Work Matters as narrated by Katherine Fenton), and Adrienne Mayor (Flying Snakes and Griffin Claws narrated by Nancy Crane with an introduction by the author). Listen while lounging on the beach, driving across the country, or simply lying in a hammock, but take one of our audiobooks with you and enjoy the experience of becoming absorbed in a new language, a new interest, or even a new understanding of a favorite topic. At Princeton Audio we are always adding new content; publishing about 25 new titles every year and, going forward, we will look to the 100+ years of quality, non-fiction from PUP’s backlist to bring older titles into a new format for rediscovery. We hope you’ll join us on this journey.
